AMBASSADOR WAYNE MARKS AN EARLY CELEBRATION OF CHILDREN’S DAY
August 6, 2008

Ambassador Wayne marked an early celebration of Children’s Day with a visit to “Madre Teresa” toy library in Las Tunas, General Pacheco, Province of Buenos Aires, on August 6.  The Ambassador and Embassy staff brought toys and books of U.S. writers in Spanish to a group of 70 excited kids at the toy library in Las Tunas. Hundred of kids, ages 3 to 15, attend “Madre Teresa” toy libraries from Monday to Saturday.  The Las Tunas toy library is one of the five recreational centers supported by the NGO Potencialidades.

During the visit, the Ambassador chatted with the kids about their recycling projects, their favorite games, and about their activities at the center. The kids asked questions about the job of an Ambassador and the United States.

“I’m very impressed with the work done by this institution and its support to these kids. I enjoyed very much my time with the kids, chatting with them about their recycling project and share their funny bright ideas”, said the Ambassador before the end of his visit.

The Ambassador also met with a group of teenagers who are learning job and arts skills in a program offered by Potencialidades. He invited them to compete for the English language after-school scholarship being offered by the Embassy.

Potencialidades is a non-profit organization created with the purpose of opening playing and recreational centers to protect, encourage and stimulate children in their early years and keep them off the streets.
