BROOKLYN ACADEMY OF MUSIC (BAM) VP GIVES A LECTURE FOR NGOS

Invited by the US Embassy, the Cultural Observatory and the Department of Postgraduate Studies on Performing Arts Management of the School of Economic Sciences (National University of Buenos Aires), Lynn M. Stirrup, BAM Vice President for Planning and Development and Executive Director for BAM Special Campaigns, is visiting Buenos Aires.
This morning, Lynn Stirrup gave a lecture at the US Embassy to more than 80 NGO representatives on "Strategic Planning, Fund-raising and Corporate Sponsorship". Her lecture is part of a series of programs the Embassy has been organizing to promote the development of NGOs in Argentina. Right after Ms. Stirrup's lecture, the Embassy Information Resource Center made a presentation on "Sources of Information for Fund-raising".
Additionally, Ms. Stirrup will be one of the keynote speakers at the Seminar on Financial Contributions from the Private Sector for Performing Arts, which will be held at the School of Economic Sciences, National University of Buenos Aires, on July 2 and 3. BAM Vice President, Planning, & Executive Director, Special Campaigns
Originally hired as Special Events Manager for Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) in February 1992, Ms. Stirrup was named Vice President for Planning & Development in July 1999, & subsequently led the fundraising operation through a tremendous period of growth, where $20 million was achieved across Endowment, Capital, & Operating campaigns in 2000, & $55 million was the accomplishment in 2007.
Following a 2007 promotion to the newly created position of Vice President, Planning & Executive Director, Special Campaigns, Ms.Stirrup’s current objective is to play one of the lead roles in bringing the world’s best performing arts center to the next level of advancement through greater fundraising accomplishment, facilities expansion, & long-range development, some of which involves launching several exciting new artistic initiatives.
Among Ms. Stirrup's proudest BAM achievements include her leadership role in securing some of the most significant private gifts in the institution’s history, such as a $20,000,000 building naming commitment in 2004 & a $5,000,000 matching challenge gift in 2005 in response to a long-term strategic business plan that she developed. Furthermore, from 2000-2006, Ms. Stirrup’s focus on individual giving growth also resulted in a 185% increase in annual dollars raised & a 55% greater number of annual donor households. Also noteworthy is Ms. Stirrup’s 1999 success in confirming Lucent Technologies as BAM's partner to construct a new media lab on site at BAM & to add an artists-in-residency initiative, Arts in Multimedia, to BAM's programs.
Born & raised in New Jersey, Ms. Stirrup holds B.S. degrees from Syracuse University in both Public Relations & Marketing & began her career in sports marketing with Millsport. A Brooklyn resident since 1992 with additional interests that include family, adventure travel, & sports, Ms. Stirrup also owns & operates a small apartment building in Brooklyn, & serves on the fundraising committee for the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church as well as the Advisory Board for the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. Ms. Stirrup has lectured internationally on fundraising strategy & has participated in grant-making panels for the National Endowment for the Arts and the Brooklyn Arts Council.
