AMBASSADOR WAYNE SUPPORTS 2nd ED. OF YALE UNIVERSITY'S INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IN ARGENTINA
July 21, 2008
On July 21, 2008, Ambassador Wayne gave opening remarks at a Yale Alumni Club event commemorating the second edition of Yale University's international internship program in Argentina. The Ambassador emphasized on the importance of all types of exchange programs, especially those dealing with education, as they enable a greater understanding of culture, traditions and beliefs among countries. The U.S. and Argentine governments place high priority on exchanges, as underlined last week by Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Tom Shannon, during the launch of joint official bilateral consultations here in Buenos Aires. The program began in London in 2003 and expanded to Beijing in 2005. Thirteen interns participated in the Argentina program this year, which is the first of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. Internship sponsors include Allende & Brea, Coca Cola Argentina, General Electric Argentina, Grupo Clarin, Seragini Brand Design, Southern Financial Partners, Institute for Effective Health Care (IECS) and Infor-Med Electronic Medical Records. Supporting NGOs include Argentine Association of Civil Rights (ADC), CIPPEC, Argentine Council for International Relations (CARI) and the MALBA.
